Polynomial Texture Maps (PTM)

Depicted below is an apparatus that can capture a so called Polynomial Texture Map (PTM). The PTM compresses the BRDFs of a captured texture into a couple of polynomial coefficients instead of RGB values. The reproduction of a shaded surface that is textured with a PTM is described in the original paper by Tom Malzbender et. al.:
