Iso Contouring

A fundamental visualization technique is iso contouring. In principle iso contouring is a technique that extracts a subset of points of the data set that match a particular singular data property or a combination thereof.
In 2D the set of of points matching a certain singular criterion is a so called iso line. Multiple iso lines contributed to an iso contour.
For a weather forecast for examples, the lines of equal pressure, the so called isobars, are visualized:
Properties of iso-contours:
- continuous line
- line is topographically closed
- multiple lines are nested into each other (onion shells)
- multiple do not intersect
