DCMTK Installation

  • We download the DCMTK 3.6.0 source distribution:
wget dicom.offis.de/download/dcmtk/dcmtk360/dcmtk-3.6.0.tar.gz
  • Or one of the latest DCMTK release snapshots, for example:
wget http://dicom.offis.de/download/dcmtk/snapshot/old/dcmtk-3.6.1_20150629.tar.gz
  • We unpack the distribution
tar zxf dcmtk-3.6.0.tar.gz
  • We compile the source distribution in “Automake/Autoconf” style, which is the standard way to compile open-source on Unix/Linux. This is a de-facto standard for 99% of GPL’ed software:
./configure
make
sudo make install-lib
  • If the above “Automake/Autoconf” style does not work for some reason, we may also try to build DCMTK using CMake style:
cmake .
make
sudo make install

This will install the compiled DCMTK libray in

/usr/local/lib

and the DCTMK headers in

/usr/local/include
  • If you do not have root permissions for the installation, it is recommended to make a local installation to your home folder:
./configure —prefix=/home/<username>
make
sudo make install-lib
