Optical Model
← Bricking | ● | Absorption Coefficient →
Optical model of a self-emitting gas:
- Gas emits light of a distinct color (neon light)
- Emitted light gets absorbed partly (clouds of smoke)
- Additional ambient background brightness
The scalar value of the volume is interpreted as density of the gas.
Linear relationship between scalar value $s$, density $\rho$ and absorption resp. emission:
- the higher the scalar value, the higher the density
- the higher the density, the higher the absorption
- the higher the density, the higher the emission
- in vacuum emission and absorption is zero
